Referring to this, Director General of Health Services Asela Gunawardena stated that with this new development, travellers travelling to Sri Lanka would now be free of mandatory COVID-19 restrictions, as the circular issued in 2021 has been lifted.
As such, the mandatory requirement of producing the COVID-19 vaccination certificate to enter the island country has also been removed, which has come into effect from December 7.
As per the latest news reports, the mandatory regulation to produce a pre-boarding or on-arrival negative COVID-19 test (PCR/Rapid Antigen Test) (RAT) by any arriving in Sri Lanka from overseas has also been removed.
However, one needs to note that if anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Sri Lanka, they will be required to remain isolated for a period of 7 days either at a private hospital or a hotel, or a place of residence.
Sri Lanka had earlier mandated the carrying of a negative COVID-19 test and proof of vaccination when it opened its borders to foreign arrivals amid the COVID crisis in 2021.
