It's the country's first post office cafe, and will be run by the in-house catering department. If reports are to go by, the cafe will remain open from 10 AM to 7 PM. Earlier, the GPO used to have a small staff canteen at a corner of the hall, whereas the rest of the hall was used as a counter for philatelic ancillaries, including coasters, cushions, brass plates, stamps, and mugs, which will continue to be on sale at the cafe by an in-house team.
Referring to this, Niraj Kumar, Postmaster-General of Kolkata Region stated that the cafe is not an ornamental one, and that it has parcel booking counters that are completely functional. He added that the idea behind this cafe is to strengthen ties with the current generation, and that the cafe is a step towards betterment of the people.
The highlight of this post office cafe is its brightly coloured sofa sets and wooden furniture, and is spread across 1,450 sq ft space.
The space also just underwent a refurbishment to give it a contemporary touch. Plus, this spot will not only be about gorging on delish food, but will be a shopper’s paradise. One will be able to find t-shirts, cups, trinkets, and much more on sale.
