Is India’s oldest temple in Madhya Pradesh? ASI begins excavations to find out

As per the latest development, the ongoing archaeological excavations conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at two mounds in Nachne village, Panna district, Madhya Pradesh, are of significant interest and importance. If reports are to go by, there is likelihood of potential discovery of India's oldest temple here, which has indeed sparked considerable excitement and anticipation among historians, archaeologists, and locals alike.

Situated near the ancient Parvati and Chaumukh Nath temples, these excavation sites hold a wealth of historical significance. Neelamber Mishra, the additional collector of Panna, has provided insights into the excavation process, elaborating the meticulous approach taken by archaeologists. The primary goal of the excavation is to reveal any hidden remnants of ancient civilisations that may lie buried beneath the soil.

Shivakant Bajpai, the superintending archaeologist of the ASI's Jabalpur Circle, has shed light on the historical significance of Nachne village. Noting the presence of the Parvati temple and the renowned Chaumukha Nath Temple, Bajpai underscores the village's importance as a potential hub of ancient architectural wonders. The excavation efforts are still in their initial stages, with archaeologists carefully excavating the upper layers before delving deeper into the earth to unveil any hidden artifacts or structures.
