These cities in Assam are now connected through helicopter services

Travelling within Assam just got a little bit more fun and easy with the launch of new helicopter connectivity between the four major cities in the state – Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur and Guwahati.

Starting from today (February 8, 2023), these four cities will be connected via six helicopter routes under the central PSU Pawan Hans. This is the first phase of the Regional Connectivity Scheme, under which Pawan Hans will operate 86 routes in a total of six states. Assam routes fall in the first phase.

This one is called the Dibrugarh-Jorhat-Tezpur-Guwahati-Tezpur-Jorhat-Dibrugarh network. This new connectivity is aimed at aiding and improving trade and tourism in these cities. For travellers this is surely great news because this helicopter service just became a more conducive means of travel as compared to long flights and connecting bus and train journeys. Now with this helicopter connectivity, travellers can reach these destinations with so much ease, and in no time.



It is safe to say that the four cities of Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur and Guwahati are some of the most important places in Assam in terms of tourism. For instance, when we talk about Dibrugarh, we are basically talking about the tea-belt of Assam. Dibrugarh is also called the Tea City of India for a reason. The city is the gateway to the three main tea-producing districts in Assam – Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Sibsagar. Home to some of the most stunning tea estates in India, Dibrugarh is also very close to Digboi (83 km), Asia’s first drilled oil well.



Jorhat is the gateway to Majuli, the world’s largest river island. Majuli is just an easy ferry away from Jorhat. Also a big tea-town, Jorhat is where a lot of tea-related studies takes place. You will be glad for the easy helicopter service to Tezpur because now it’s so much easier to reach the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kaziranga National Park. The national park is just 50 km from the city of Tezpur. Tea estates, wildlife and heritage places, you name it and the city’s got them all.



Lastly, Guwahati, the gateway to Northeast India, is a constantly evolving city. Be it transportation or culture or heritage, Guwahati is in the midst of it all. Having an ease of connectivity would mean a lot more travel and holiday options for local tourists as well as for tourists from outside of Assam.
