Namibian cheetah in Kuno National Park gives birth to four cubs

Within a couple of days after losing female cheetah Shasha, Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh welcomed four cubs. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav informed that one of the cheetahs relocated from Namibia to India had four cubs on Wednesday. He added that it’s a great moment and termed it as an eventful moment in India's wildlife conservation history.

The Minister also congratulated the entire team of Project Cheetah for their relentless efforts in bringing back the large carnivore to India, and for their continuous efforts in conserving the same.The mother cheetah, named Siyaya, is under constant observation and is being monitored by a special team. Forest department officials also added that her four cubs are doing well, and are completely healthy.
The first batch of eight cheetahs were released in Kuno National Park by PM Narendra Modi last September under the ambitious Cheetah reintroduction programme. Those five females and three males, were translocated from Namibia into a quarantine enclosure at Kuno in Madhya Pradesh, before releasing into the open.

Officials involved in the conservation project expressed their delight and stated that the birth of the cubs indicates a positive sign that the cheetahs are managing and adjusting well to their new home in Kuno National Park. They added that the park is prepared to make it a suitable habitat for the reintroduction of cheetahs into India's wildlife population.
