Namibia open to receive international tourists who test COVID-19 negative

Several nations are slowly reopening their borders for international tourists to jump start their tourism sector after a considerable break due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

After Brazil and Egypt among other countries, Namibia is also ready to welcome foreign tourists. From this week, airlines can land at Hosea Kutako International Airport.
According to the latest reports, international tourists will have to provide negative COVID-19 test reports issued within 72 hours of the person’s flight time. In addition, tourists will be given a health questionnaire on arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek which has to be duly filled with relevant information.

Tourists can only land at Hosea Kutako International Airport since other airports in the country are accepting international tourists. After landing, temperature scanning will take place, and passengers showing any symptoms will be tested again for Covid-19 at the airport. For the security, all tourists should contain travel insurance and purchase a local number and register it with the Namibian authorities. Visa will be granted on the basis of conditions laid down as earlier; tourists from several nationalities can be visa-free or apply for a visa on arrival.

Reportedly, tourists on arrival in Namibia will be checked in at a hotel accredited to the Ministry of Health. It is mandatory for tourists to stay at the accommodation for a minimum period of 7 days with the freedom to enjoy all the facilities.

After that, a second Covid-19 test will be conducted on day five, and results will be available on day seven. On getting negative results, the tourists can go ahead and explore the country. They can also check into other hotels, campsites or accommodation.

Namibia is one of the safest countries in South Africa with more than 10 percent of the GDP, and a record number of 1.5 million tourists had visited the country in 2018.
