The road, which is also an alternative to Jammu-Srinagar Highway, was shut down for vehicular moments earlier this too on two occasions because of excessive snowfall. The condition caused severe slippery conditions.
Deputy SP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch range, Mohammad Nawaz said, “On Thursday evening, fresh snowfall took place at upper reaches in Rajouri and Poonch. A stretch of Mughal Road has also experienced snowfall.”
The vehicular movement was stopped at 6 PM in the evening and will only be restored after slippery conditions get better and accumulated snow is cleared.
The SP also asked people to follow the advisory issued by traffic police and not to go towards Mughal Road until it is restored officially.
An official from the meteorological department informed that the rains have reached higher regions of north Kashmir. “The rains have started in the ski resort of Gulmarg. It is cloudy in the rest of the places,” he informed. The department has also predicted rains and snowfall on Friday.

According to a MeT department update, “Generally cloudy with light to moderate rain over plains and light snow over higher reaches towards late afternoon/ evening till November 10”. It also mentioned that between November 11 to 18, the weather is expected to remain dry.
