As per the reports, this incident happened after a Japanese airline unintentionally underpriced some business class tickets.
The Japanese carrier added that the mistake stemmed from an error on its Vietnam website, which listed an erroneous currency conversion. Although it has not yet revealed how many people had gotten lucky, the airline added that it was currently investigating the cause of the bug and the size of its damage.
ANA, however, added that it will honour the tickets of those who booked the tickets and paid, but those who only reserved the tickets will be required to pay a ‘just price.’
If reports are to go by, this isn’t the first time that an airline has inadvertently sold premium seats at a steep discount. Back in 2019, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd accidentally sold discounted first and business-class tickets from Vietnam to the US back for as little as $675, whereas the usual price would have been as much as $16,000. Nevertheless, it also honoured those fares.
