Landslides hit Kishtwari; Jammu-Srinagar National Highway blocked

In a recent turn of events, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been blocked because of landslides at Kishtwari, Pather and Banihal. The news was shared by the Jammu and Kashmir traffic police. Following the landslide, the traffic movement was immediately stopped on the highway from both sides.

The landslide also claimed the lives of four people, including two pairs of brothers. As per local police, the landslide hit their vehicle on the national highway in Banihal in Ramban district on Tuesday morning. The four died because of the massive landslide.
As reported by ANI, the traffic police have issued an advisory that recommended travellers to seek confirmation from the Traffic Control Unit (TCU) before attempting any movement on the affected highway.

J-K Traffic Police took to social media and posted following on X:
“Traffic update @ 0700 hrs. Jammu Srinagar NHW blocked because of landslide at Kishtwari Pather Banihal. Traffic stopped from both ends. People are advised not to travel on NH-44 without confirmation from TCUs.”

Last month in August, a similar thing happened. The pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath from Jammu to Srinagar was blocked because of the landslide on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district.
J&K Traffic Police later issued an advisory stating that confirmation from the Traffic Control Unit was advisable before moving on the highway.
