The International Space Station has shared incredible photographs of the Aurora Australis, or what is referred to as the Southern Lights. For people across the globe, such extraordinary phenomena are rare to see in person. The International Space Station shared some of these pictures on Instagram.
The International Space Station social media platform, ISS, is extremely popular across the world, especially among young people who are curious about space. The pictures of Aurora Australis came as a beautiful surprise for people on the internet.
The Northern Lights are what are commonly called Aurora Borealis, while the Southern Lights are called the Aurora Australis. Basically the former is what we see in the North Pole, and the latter is what we see in the South Pole. Aurora is taken from the name of the Roman Goddess of Dawn, and why not, the colours are simply spectacular.
Both these types of lights are usually pink, green, yellow, blue, violet, and at times white and orange in colour.
