The beaches in Goa draw in major tourism for the state and, at present, the state tourism department’s focus is on reviving the beaches. The shoreline, in general, needs restoring for many reasons; the most important one being beach erosion, which is the biggest threat that the shorelines are facing currently. With many beachfront properties like shacks, restaurants and hotels around, there’s a lot of pressure on the beaches and the shoreline ecosystem. Read less
The state tourism department has called for a collective effort from all stakeholders to help bring the beaches back to a healthier condition. Sustainable measures need to be followed by all stakeholders if the beaches are to be restored to their glory days.
The department's main goal was to make the beaches safer. On similar lines, the police were also told to keep a check on challans issued unnecessarily to tourists.
Another important development that stemmed from this is that, by September 2022, Goa will have two model beach stretches, where visitors will have access to all basic amenities required at a beach or a tourist destination in general.
