As per Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi is closely monitoring the situation in West Asia and has observed that both Iran and Israel have opened their airspace for several days now. Jaiswal said that the importance of Indian nationals staying alert is very important while visiting these countries. It’s necessary to maintain contact with the Indian Embassy.
“We advise Indian nationals to remain vigilant while travelling to these countries and be in touch with the Indian Embassy,” Jaiswal said.
The advisory further mentioned, “They are also requested to observe utmost precautions about their safety and restrict their movements to the minimum.”
The decision to modify the travel advisory was influenced by several factors. Notably, tensions between Iran and Israel have decreased, leading to the easing of restrictions on the airspace of both countries.
Additionally, Israel has expressed a need to relax travel restrictions due to plans to hire thousands of Indian construction workers. The earlier advisory had disrupted the travel plans of over 6000 Indian workers expected to be sent to Israel in April.
As of now, there are about 19000 Indians in Israel, including workers hired for construction projects and professionals. Similarly, Iran is home to over 4000 Indians.
The April 12 advisory had cautioned against travel to Iran and Israel, urging Indians residing in these countries to register themselves with the Indian embassies and observe utmost precautions for their safety. Additionally, India had conveyed concerns over the situation in West Asia to both Iran and Israel.
