India gets its first Renewable Energy Museum in Kolkata; know all about it

For those planning a trip to Kolkata, they have got a new attraction to explore now! Yes, India has got its first-ever solar dome museum, the Renewable Energy Museum in Kolkata which was inaugurated this Tuesday. The place promises a unique experience to curious travellers.

Visitors here can explore different energy sources, environmental issues, and sustainable practices through engaging interactive displays, quizzes, and online games.
There are three levels connected by a spiral ramp, with a central lift to the ground floor. As per plans, a facility management firm will look after the museum’s operation of the renewable energy displays and models inside the dome. The firm will also guide visitors through the dome museum and manage the interactive exhibits, including quizzes and online games. It will be responsible for running the kids' zone within the museum.

Firhad Hakim, Mayor of Kolkata, inaugurated the museum. He took to X and shared pictures from the inauguration of the museum. He said, “A matter of immense pride that the first Solar Dome in India is now open for public at Eco Park, New Town. The Solar Dome Museum revolves around the concept of renewable sources of energy & is equipped with over 2000 solar panels for continuous generation of energy throughout the day providing electricity for the facility itself and lighting up the surrounding streetlights.”


This museum is a joint initiative by the Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation and the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited. To visit, head to Gate 6 of the renowned Eco Park, where you’ll find the dome-shaped museum located nearby.
