Hong Kong is giving away 5 lakh free tickets to boost tourism!

The Hong Kong Government has announced that it will be providing 5 lakh free plane tickets to all those wishing to visit the city. This move comes in the wake of boosting tourism in the region, and has been timed with its announcement of fully opening its border for tourists.

Hong Kong recently launched the global promotional campaign Hello Hong Kong, and is sending its greatest welcome to the world with 5 lakh free air tickets, as well as city-wide offers covering ‘Hong Kong Goodies’ visitor consumption vouchers, to entice travellers to come to experience Hong Kong’s diverse appeals. Hong Kong's leader John Lee Ka-chiu added that the campaign has been launched to increase the number of visitors, boost business, and attract investors as the city makes efforts to fight its way back to normality from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government is hoping to attract tourists by offering free air tickets, and support local businesses. The campaign is also aimed at promoting more than 200 events in the areas of culture, business, and tourism, along with those that were suspended due to the pandemic, to showcase the city's comeback.

As per the reports, most of the free air tickets will be distributed by the city’s carriers, Cathay Pacific, and the budget carrier HK Express, and Hong Kong Airlines. For the records, tickets will be available for a six-month period, although the government has not yet announced how they will distribute those tickets. It has, however, suggested that frequent flyers might receive tickets through the lottery system.
