Goa imposes night curfew until April 30

India’s favourite beach destination is going to observe night curfew from 10 pm till 6 am until April 30. The Goa government is taking such an action in view of the rising coronavirus cases in the state. According to the new rules of curfew, the state wil see a closure of schools, colleges, swimming pools, and coaching classes. Also, congregations pertaining to sports, culture, and politics will also not be permitted during this period of time.
As of yesterday, Goa had a total of 9300 active cases of COVID-19, and reported 1502 new cases. The state also saw 17 deaths yesterday.

It has however been ruled that bars, restaurants, casinos, gyms, massage parlours, buses, river cruises, theatres (including multiplexes), will be permitted to operate with fifty per cent capacity. These rules have been put in place so as to reduce the spread of the virus.

The curfew rules also say that casinos will be closed after 10 pm, and people cannot gather outside in large numbers. Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister of Goa, said that people are not following the required COVID-19 protocols.

Goa saw a surge in tourism since the end of last year, when many travelled to the state. During this time it was common to see tourists break COVID protocols and roam about without even wearing a mask. Such laxity will always lead to dire consequences.

According to a statement by the Chief Minister, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that imposition of a lockdown should be the last option. Lockdown will not control coronavirus. We have to impose some restrictions to control the situation.”
