India to get its first pod taxi service between Noida Airport and Film City

India will see its first pod taxi running between Noida Airport and Noida Film City. As per the latest reports, it will start running on the tracks as soon as flights start operating from Noida Airport.

Pod taxis have been a popular mode of commute in several western countries, and can accommodate four to six passengers per car. With this project, India is also set to experiment with this mode of commute.
Reportedly, Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation Limited (IPRCL) have submitted the final DPR (Detailed Project Report) to Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) on June 13, 2021, for the pod taxi project, which will run around 14 km from Film City to Noida Airport.
Reports have it that in March this year, Yeida had roped in IPRCL, the central government agency, to prepare a DPR of the pod taxi project, which is expected to boost connectivity between the Jewar airport and the Film City.
Referring to this, Yeida Chief Executive Officer stated that this important project will provide smooth connectivity to residential and industrial areas that fall between Film City and the Noida International Airport. He added that they have started analysing and studying the DPR to ensure that they can suggest any changes if required, and subsequently it will be sent to the UP government for approvals.

As per the Yeida officials, the project was earlier proposed to be built on an elevated corridor, after which the DPR has suggested it to be constructed on the surface itself. And as per the DPR, the corridor will pass through various sectors, such as 21, 28, 29, 30, and 32, among others.
