The world-famous Christmas markets of Berlin in Germany have returned this year. Germany is noted for its traditional Christmas markets but due to COVID-19 outbreak, the markets were suspended last Christmas. But this year, the gorgeous markets are back with twinkling lights, carousels and ice-skating. Read less
However, the festivities have returned with some mandatory restrictions this year as precaution. Those wanting to visit the markets will have to present their COVID-19 status before entering inside to shop.
The Berlin Senate informed that Christmas market organisers will be able to apply 3G or 2G COVID-19 restrictions. Under 3G rules, people over 12 years will have to show their vaccination proof, recovery or a negative COVID-19 result. to enter when markets return on November 22. Under 2G rules, people will either have to show their proof of vaccination or recovery only to get the entry.
According to the Visit Berlin tourism board, a number of famous markets, including Rotes Rathaus, Zitadelle Spandau and Gendarmenmarkt, have been reported to apply for the 2G rule.
Apparently, Christmas and Christmas markets are a huge thing in Germany. These markets attract tourists from all over in the winter season. Berlin alone is accountable for 80 such markets in the whole world. The Nuremberg Christmas Market in Bavaria is the most famous of all attracting nearly two million visitors each year.
