According to the IMD’s forecast, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka are on alert for heavy rains from November 2 to 8. It is also reported that some parts of Puducherry, Karaikal, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in addition to Tamil Nadu will see significant rainfall. The IMD has also issued caution for Chennai and other coastal areas.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecast light to moderate rainfall for the city and surrounding areas. Certain districts, including Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Nagapattinam, are more likely to see severe rainfall. From November 8 to 12, even more intense rains are predicted for places like Theni, Dindigul, and Kanyakumari as the week goes on. Over the next few days, Chennai's temperatures are expected to range from a high of 32°C to a low of 24°C.

The IMD has indicated that the rain may continue over the next 48 hours, supported by a north-south trough extending from the cyclonic circulation. This setup could bring moderate to heavy rain in parts of Chennai, particularly on Thursday. According to N Senthamarai Kannan, the IMD’s regional director, rain activity may persist for at least four days, though it may vary between day and night.
With the intensifying weather, fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing out into the sea until November 9, as squally winds are expected, reaching speeds of 35-45 kmph and gusts up to 55 kmph in certain coastal zones near the Bay of Bengal. Additionally, water levels in the Vaigai Dam are on the rise due to recent rains, standing at 64.34 feet, close to the full capacity of 71 feet. Officials from the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department are monitoring the situation, and flood warnings will be issued if levels continue to rise, with water releases planned for agricultural support if necessary.
