Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport all set to go green!

Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport is all set to go green with the launch of electric vehicles by Airport Authority of India (AAI). This will help the airport to achieve zero carbon emission on the campus. Apparently, airports are one of the most important sources of carbon emissions. And in order to lower dependency on fossil fuels and control vehicular emissions, AAI is planning to introduce electric vehicles at its offices and airports.

But given the current scenario, airports are making changes and trying to minimalise the impact of this on environment. Today the airlines are running on renewable energy sources. Similarly Bhopal airport is also getting in the league to achieve the green status. Ram Jee Awasthi, director airport, said that Bhopal airport is planning to introduce EVs with other vehicles in a phased manner. He said, “We have decided to make full replacement of vehicles with EVs by 2024”.
Not only this, AAI has plans to install high voltage and fast-charging stations at various important locations so that it could meet the requirements of EVs. Putting light on this, the director further said that they are coming with a parking policy soon wherein they will install EV charging stations on the airport campus.

In order to reach the green target, the AAI has asked the airlines to replace the current vehicles with the EVs. Awasthi said, “Airlines have also shown positive response to replacing the vehicles with the EVs. We are hoping to make 100 per cent change by 2024”.
For those who don’t know, Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj airport is doing a terrific job when it comes to zero carbon emission and has achieved Level 2+ Carbon Accreditation of Airports Council International (ACI).
