Meghalaya makes RT-PCR test report mandatory for all visitors, including fully vaccinated

All travellers entering Meghalaya will now have to mandatorily present a negative RT-PCR test report that should have been taken 72 hours prior to their departure. As per the news reports, this rule should be followed by every traveller, irrespective of their vaccination status.

This move comes after the Meghalaya state government decided to reimpose COVID-19 restrictions in the state to prevent the rise of COVID cases in the region.
The latest travel order has come into effect from today, and will also include restrictions on movement of private vehicles in Shillong city, whereas the odd-even system will also be brought in Shillong for vehicular movement.

Referring to this, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated that the decision has been taken after reviewing the COVID-19 situation in the northeastern state, and the rise of Omicron cases in various parts of the country. He further added that it is crucial to impose these restrictions although the state has not reported any Omicron case yet.
He also stated that apart from double vaccination, all visitors arriving from outside the state, would be required to present a negative report of COVID-19 RT-PCR test that has been conducted within 72 hours. If they fail to do so, they will have to undergo COVID tests at the entry point to Meghalaya. He also informed that night curfew has been brought into place from 10 PM in Shillong city and in all the other districts.
