Avalanche warnings issued for higher areas of J&K

Tourists staying in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir need to stay careful in the coming days as the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) as has issued avalanche warnings for the upper parts of the avalanche-prone region.
Reportedly, the warning issued on January 6 stated that fresh medium avalanches may occur in areas such as Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, Anantnag, Ramban, Doda, Kulgam, Kupwara and Bandipora districts, besides the Waltengu Nad as well as the south and north portals of the Jawahar Tunnel, Verinag, Kapran, Chowkibal-NC Pass, Gurez, Dawar and Neeru areas.
News also has it that there is a possibility of low-level avalanche warning in the upper parts like Udhampur, Sonamarg-Zojila, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Z-Gali-Kalaroose, Kanzalwan, Tangmarg and Gulmarg.
The local authorities have warned the people living in these avalanche-prone areas to avoid outdoor trips and excursions in the next few days. Meanwhile, Kashmir is under a heavy spell of snowfall these days which has not only forced the authorities to close the Srinagar-Jammu highway but also suspend all flights to the Srinagar airport due to poor visibility.
