Details that went into the making of the Statue of Equality

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Statue of Equality in Hyderabad yesterday. Commemorating the 11th century Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya, the 216 ft tall statue was unveiled in Hyderabad’s Shamshabad. The statue is a symbol of the saint’s knowledge, ideals, and detachment.
It is a part of the ongoing 1000th birth anniversary of the saint. A 12-day Sri Ramanuja Sahasrabdi Samaroham celebration is currently ongoing. The statue consists of 54 beautiful lotus petals and under this rests 36 crafted elephants. The Bhadra Vedi that holds the statue is a work of art, with 18 stone carved sankhas and, further, 18 stone-carved chakras.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during the event, "I believe that it will not only inspire the future generations but also strengthen the ancient identity of India."
Saint Ramanujacharya is the one who is credited with reviving the Bhakti Movement. He was born in 1017 in Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur. Social reformists across the world consider him to be an icon of equality and his teachings have inspired some of India’s foremost ancient poets, such as Kabir and Meerabai.

It is believed that the Saint is responsible for helping numerous people break out from the shackles of social, gender, educational, and economic issues. Saint Ramanujacharya believed that all humans are equal, and did not differentiate between people. He was also the one responsible for opening temple doors to people who were discriminated against in society.
