Ancient street food counters unearthed by archaeologists in Italy’s Pompeii

The ancient Italians loved street food culture as much as their modern generations do. The proof of this fact has been gathered by the archaeologists in Italy’s Pompeii. News has it that they have unearthed an old thermopolium or a hot food and drinks counter, having food in terracotta jars as old as 2000 years.
According to the latest reports, the food counter has murals of animals and a few circular holes. Pompeii was destroyed in a volcanic eruption several centuries ago.
Reportedly, the historians have found patera bowls (embellished bronze drinking bowls), ceramic jars, amphora, wine flasks etc. The jars have traces of snails, fish, beef, pork etc. in the jars. Massimo Ossana, Director of the Pompeii archaeological park, told a leading news website that for the first time they have found an entire thermopolium or food counter. The discovery was made on December 26, 2020. However, it is not yet open for public visitors.
Pompeii was a bustling Roman city once upon a time. However, the ancient texts state that it was buried after the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. It has already been a part of several movies and rock band music videos.
