Lucknow: You will soon be able to book a stay in these five Nawabi-era structures

Lucknow is all set to get five new grand heritage hotels. As per the reports, five palatial buildings belonging to the Nawabi-era, including Chattar Manzil, Kothi Gulistan-e-Iram, Roshan-ud-Daula Kothi, Kothi Darshan Vilas, and Kothi Farhat Baksh, will soon be converted into heritage hotels.

These structures were built between 1722 and 1856, when Nawab Sadat Ali Khan took over as Nawab of Awadh, and when the British arrested Nawab Wajid Ali Shah.
This move comes in the wake of promoting tourism in the region. If the reports are to go by, the Uttar Pradesh government is aiming to work on lines similar to Rajasthan and emulate the success of the desert state, which has converted more than 200 heritage buildings into hotels.

An official from the tourism department added that these structures are now currently under the protected (notified) category, and would soon be brought under the unprotected category to turn them into operational hotels.
Referring to this, an official added that while Rajasthan only allows private historical buildings to be converted into hotels, the Uttar Pradesh government plans to convert government-owned historical structures into hotels under the public-private partnership model.

Revealing more about the plan, Mukesh Meshram, Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture Department added that a state committee will keep a tab on the private parties managing the heritage hotels, and that they will not be allowed to change the facade of buildings.

However, they will need to invest money on developing the monuments to the stature of a five-star hotel. Latest reports suggest that the process of converting the five aforementioned Nawab-era monuments into heritage hotels is already underway.
