Toronto Zoo will let you do something unique this Valentine's Day

Because putting a hex on someone is frowned upon and is a big no-no, on the occasion of the upcoming Valentine’s Day, Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy will let you vent out your anger in a most creative and funny way.

Yes, now you can name a cockroach after someone you hate. We all have that ex or someone incredibly annoying in our lives, now’s the best time to let them know that there is a cockroach somewhere carrying their name.


All jokes aside, this campaign, launched by the Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy, has brought a lot of attention to these critters. Did you know that apart from flying around and successfully freaking people out, these bugs do a lot for the ecology?


These bugs, back in their home in the rainforest, help decompose the forest’s waste (dead and decaying organic matter, including animal’s faecal matter). They themselves are food to many forest animals. It’s not all horror with these critters, you know.



This quirky campaign will allow you to name a cockroach by donating a minimum amount of $25 towards the Zoo’s fundraising efforts. You can do this by clicking on the zoo’s official website, go to “dedicate your donation”, “in honour of”, and then fill in the person’s name!


The donor will then receive a tax receipt, a digital certificate with the cockroach’s name, and a digital graphic. This you can share with anyone.


Will little Bob live up to his name? We shall see…
