Located downtown Calgary, this awesome centre with interactive exhibits is the perfect place to visit with kids in tow. The kids can enjoy ‘a day in the life of Calgary’s police officer’ while they explore various units, including the Canine Unit, Tactical Unit and Patrol Unit. A life-size replica of HAWCS helicopter and brand new police vehicles are on display here. Visitors will get a look at what policing was like back in the early 1900s as they explore the different Calgary cases that are on display, complete with dress-up clothes such as a trench coat. For older kids, there is a street-smart section where they can sit in a real prison cell and see what gang life is like as well as learn about the horrors of drug addiction and bullying. Saturdays bring the forensic workshops, where the youth (9-13 years of age) learn about bugs, bodies, DNA, blood spills, fingerprints and more. Three incredible crime labs complete with state-of-the-art equipment round off this experience. The centre is open every Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, so plan your visit accordingly.
