It takes only about an hour via car to make your way from Winnipeg to Whiteshell, making this a great destination if you only have a couple of days. This park truly represents Canada as a whole with its beautiful lakes and rivers that run throughout. There are a number of accommodation choices, whether you are having a romantic getaway and want to stay in the adults-only lodge, or you are bringing the whole family along for camping. Activities at the park include everything from hiking to canoeing to swimming in the summer, and snowshoeing, skiing, and snowmobiling in the winter. There is also a great opportunity for wildlife viewing in the park as it is home to animals such as bears, deer, bald eagles, otters, beavers, lynx, wolves and more. The park is particularly popular for bird watching as well. Fishing can be enjoyed in the summer months, as well as ice fishing in the winter. With a total of thirteen easily accessible lakes, sunny days, and easy access to the city, this is one of the most popular weekend getaways from Winnipeg.
