Your guide to going wild in Africa

There are places that the travellers fancy, and then there are places that every traveller dreams of. And then, there is Africa. Far beyond any logic or notions, this continent is for the ones, who are not interested in just Facebook cover photos. Unlike the assumption that Africa is a place for only the khaki-wearing lovers of wild or some professional wildlife photographers, it is for the likes of all of you. One more thing that pits Africa over any other destinations is its effort and success in keeping most of its tourism activities sustainable.

If you have been eager for that one trip that will change your life, here is why I vouch for Africa, the great continent.
1. Glamping in the wild

   If you are not in the great outdoors when in Africa, you really do not belong to the travel community. This continent is for the explorers at heart, especially if you wish to explore in style. Glamping, the uber-luxurious version of camping, has been a favourite in Africa and rightly so. Expect everything from treehouses camps to ones spread on riverbeds; you might have some wildlife for the company as well, for there are elephants, giraffes and even lion prides around.

   2. Farm to table meals

Ask me and I am of the opinion that this is probably the best practice that the travel world has seen in recent times. A haven for lovers of oragnic food, the farm to table is not new but is still to be adopted into mainstream culture. If you fancy the idea of fresh produce coming right to your table, picked right in front of you, Africa promises a discovery of flavours for you. Choose from any place, including some of the world’s best vineyards and farm gardens.

3. Galloping horses in Okavango This one is an absolute favourite, especially if you have ever harboured dreams of galloping on horses in a wild, wild land. Horseback safaris in Africa are the latest rage, breaking all notions of a jungle safari that you might be having by now. Here, you can gallop along elephants, zebras, giraffes and even the big cats. One look at the terrain that the Okavango Delta offers and you would already be imagining all your cowboy dreams coming true.
4. The Big Five
You cannot come back from Africa without meeting the Big Five. The term might have a lot of connotations elsewhere in the world, but when in Africa, your Big Five are the lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and Cape buffalo. The continent is home to some of the richest wildlife reserves in the world, think Kruger, Kaufe, and Serengeti (of course). The latter is home to some of the most fierce and free lion prides that you would encounter in this lifetime.

5. The wilds of Maasai
This Savannah wilderness is one of the core attractions of Africa, and fails to lose its charm even with all the touristy glare that it attracts. While visiting Maasai Mara is quite an expensive experience and you can indulge yourself in hot air ballooning and what not, it is the Maasai people, who have the spotlight on them. The tribe has traditional mud houses for themselves, and are quite welcoming. Once here, expect an unforgettable day of dance, music, warrior skills and more. A great cultural experience if you choose a tour that does not fleece you for money.
