Moon Walk

The quirky name is bound to evoke references to Michael Jackson but surprisingly has no connection. Instead, the Moon Walk, a riverside promenade adjacent to the French Quarter was created in the 1970s along the Mississippi River, and is actually named after the then mayor whose nickname was ‘Moon’. Though a favourite among tourists and locals through the day, it is very popular during the evening when the heat goes down and a gentle breeze blows from across the river. It is a great place to walk, spot boats and other vessels, watch the busy activity in the harbour or just sit on one of the many iron benches and people-watch. Like the rest of the French Quarter, the Moon Walk is also a great place to list to music and watch street performers present their talent.
