IRCTC announces six reserved berths for women passengers in special trains

In order to offer more travel benefits to female passengers travelling in trains, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has issued a circular stating that six berths will be reserved exclusively for women passengers in the 3AC class of all Durunto, Rajdhani, and other fully air conditioned trains.
According to the latest news reports, the online arm of the Indian Railways wants to exclude the Garib Rath Express from the new reservation rule. According to the Railway Board circular issued on November 30, 2018, all Durunto, Rajdhani, and full air-conditioned trains should reserve six coaches for female travellers notwithstanding their age or whether travelling alone or in a group.


A railway official told the press that the newly introduced female berth quota was in addition to a consolidated quota of four lower berths per coach allotted in AC 3-tier for female passengers, and senior citizens above 45 years of age, as well as pregnant women.
Reportedly, until now, the railways was offering a reservation quota of six sleeper class berths in all Express or Mail trains for women travellers. In addition, the railways reserves six berths for female passengers in every train in the 3AC of Garib Rath Express.
