US Visa will now depend on your social media activity

US visa applicants now may have to submit their details of social media activity of past five years, along with 15 years of biographical information. The move was taken by the US government to toughen the vetting of visitors.

The proposed evaluation process will further enhance the screening process and will be an addition to their scrutiny procedure. The US Department of State has invited suggestions from the American public, and if the proposal gets accepted, the applicants will be asked to share all handles/accounts they have held over the last five years across 20 social media networks.
These include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google+, MySpace and Vine.

Not just that, one has to give a list of all telephone numbers and email addresses used over the last five years. The US govt will use this information for “identity resolution and vetting purposes,” before granting a visa.

Earlier the US state government had a similar kind of vetting procedure, which was rolled out in May 2017. In this, the supplementary information sheet sought details of social media handles, and browsing history of past 5 years. The travel details of 15 years was only required to be filled where authorities felt it's necessary, and was not mandatory for all.

If the new proposed plan goes through, then these details may be asked of everyone.
Suggestions are invited by the government till 29 May, and on the basis of this it will either be implemented or not.
