This centre as established in 1959 for the rehabilitation of Tibetans who fled from their homeland during the mayhem along with the Dalai Lama. To sustain themselves in their new lives, they adopted the principle of self help. Today, the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre comprises a home for the aged, a school, an orphanage, clinic, gompa and craft workshop that teach the production of carpets, woodcarvings, leatherwork and woollens. Located on a hill top that can be approached from the Lebong Cart road, you can buy all of these products from retail area at the centre. There's also an interesting photographic exhibition portraying the establishment and workings of the centre that you can browse.
