Originally built in 1896, this heritage railway starts from Groudle Glen in Onchan, which forms the east coast of the island. Operated by a team of volunteers, this two-foot gauge railway runs between Groudle Glen and the Sea Lion Rocks tea rooms. The Groudle Glen Railway’s main station is Lhen Coan and the railway operates steam, diesel and electric engines. The other three stations are Lime Kiln Halt which is the halfway point, the Headland Station which is now closed and the Sea Lion Rocks. Each of these stations is uniquely colour-coded with the benches, other furniture and waiting rooms painted in one colour. Scrapped in 1960, this line was fully restored, and has been operational since 1982. The trains on pass through the lovely countryside and ascend to the clifftop where one can stop at the visitor centre and enjoy a quick bite while admiring the most stunning views.
