The Tomioka Hachiman Shrine in Tomioka dates back to the early 1600s and is a great destination to visit. Just make sure to visit on a Sunday so that you can also experience the weekly Tomioka Hachimangu Flea Market out front. Although it only consists of 120 stalls, which makes it small by Tokyo standards, this market is more retro than all of Tokyo’s other market and shopping streets. In addition to all the obligatory Japanese market items, Tomioka Hachimangu is known for the wide variety of antiques and collectibles available here. Collectible coins, 19th century postcards and stamps, old books, and other nostalgia memorabilia are the real reason people come here.
Note: The flea market is closed during January and on the third Sunday of every month.
Nearby: Kiyosumi Garden and the Edo-Tokyo Museum
