One of the stranger sites in Detroit is the Michigan Building, formerly an immaculate theatre and now a parking garage. The murals have staid and so have the gilded ceilings; the only thing that’s changed is the floor which now supports only cars, not theatre guests. To get in be prepared to talk to a grumpy guard, but if you come at the right time (which seems to be whenever the guard feels like it or whenever there’s not a major sports game going on) you’ll get a ten minute glance. Conveniently located in the downtown area you can step in for a quick look before heading out to any other activity.
