In a city that’s inundated with snazzy sky-scrapers and 21st century structures, The Blue House is one of the few buildings standing testament to 1920s-style architecture in Hong Kong, and is a government-designated heritage site. A four-storey-high house built in the tong lau style of architecture, The Blue House showcases a mixture of Chinese and Western architecture, and stands out with its distinctive blue façade. Although some residents continue to live here, the building also houses the livelihood museum—set up with the aim of promoting and preserving the culture of its neighbourhood—in an effort towards preservation and historic revitalisation. Located on the ground floor, the museum holds regular events and exhibitions showcasing various aspects of the island’s heritage, and visitors can avail of the heritage walking tours which are usually led by locals who’ve lived in the area for ages.
