Watch the Stampede Parade

The locals of Calgary know what to expect, every Thursday before the Stampede kicks off the streets suddenly become lined with campers, tents, bleacher style seating and chairs, all in the name of the Calgary Stampede Parade. Thousands flock to the downtown core to reserve their seats for the parade that kicks off the 10-day festival. You will have to get up early to attend though as the parade normally kicks off around 7:30 am. What it consists of is a mash up of western themed floats and marching bands along with hundreds of horses and thousands of people. The parade not only represents who Calgary is but has performers from all over the world come to participate in it. Kids will love the entertainers who juggle and dance while adults can appreciate the beats of the bands. Cheer on the cheerleaders as they dance their way through the streets, take in the magnificent horses and clap along as fire-fighters, police offers and EMT’s march in support. It is essential to get your parade tickets ahead of time as well as wake up at the crack of dawn to ensure you get a good seat. And after the parade is over, make sure to head on over to one of the many pancake breakfasts that are held nearby.
