Chances are you will spend more than a couple hours roaming this enormous market open Mondays to Saturdays from 8am-6pm; and that’s because this market is full of food including fresh seafood that you can buy to prepare yourself a sumptuous meal and the sit down restaurants that are a foodie’s haven. This market got a facelift in recent years ,and what was once seen as rundown and didn’t always comply with food safety rules has been transformed. The covered streets are bustling in the mornings; and if you want a taste of authentic Athens life, head here when the market opens. The fish section of the market is one of the star attractions as the vendors are loud and enthusiastic, and chances are you will find displays of fish that you have never seen before. Another impressive sight is that of the woolly haired creatures that you have never seen before. And don’t miss out on the umpteen number of olive sellers (samples are necessary). From veggies and fruits to meats and fish, it’s all right here! Just remember that if you’re staying in a hotel it might be hard to cook all this delicious food.
