Tarayana Rural Products is one place in Thimphu where you will find some of the most authentic pieces of traditional craft. Tarayana is essentially an NGO established by Bhutan's Queen Mother Dorje Wangmo (the fourth king's wife) in order to support the region’s rural communities by selling the traditional crafts made by them. This way, their skill set is also put on public display and is made accessible for those travelling to the country from other parts of the world. Some of the most interesting pieces of traditional crafts sold here include paper products from Samtse, handwoven scarves, bags and nettle place mats.
