Navigate Australia's busiest airport
Word to the wise: Try not to book the last flight of the day. A curfew grounds flights from 11pm - 6am, so if your flight is delayed, you'll be sleeping at the airport.
Hugging the ocean in the south eastern Sydney suburb of Mascot, Kingsford-Smith or Sydney Airport is the only major airport servicing Sydney. If you're heading to the CBD or eastern suburbs, consider taking a cab (outside peak hour) as it won't cost much more than the rip-off Airport Link train, which will relieve you of at least AUD 15.40 for a one-way ticket to or from the domestic/international terminal for the 13 minute journey. For the north shore and destinations further afield, check online to find the most appropriate shuttle service.
Australian customs officers don't miss a beat, so remember to declare for inspection all food, plant material and animal products. There are plenty of restaurants in the food court to see you through a stopover.
