Built back in 1850, this is the first temple of the Swaminarayan sect, and stands as a stunning testament to Maratha and Jain architecture. Built in accordance with the founder’s instructions, it is replete with detailed carvings—green-yellow sculptures of Hindu gods, clothed in opulent garments—all over the facade and interiors of this 19th century structure. Built back in 1850, this is the first temple of the Swaminarayan sect, and stands as a stunning testament to Maratha and Jain architecture. Built in accordance with the founder’s instructions, it is replete with detailed carvings—green-yellow sculptures of Hindu gods, clothed in opulent garments—all over the facade and interiors of this 19th century structure. A beautifully crafted arch welcomes you at the entrance, and the architecture is based on Burma teak wood. Attracting hordes of tourists on a daily basis, the day after Diwali is especially auspicious and draws in millions of devotees. There is also a multi-story guesthouse on the premises, which caters specifically to tourists.
