Built back in 1850, this is the first temple of the Swaminarayan sect, and stands as a stunning testament to Maratha and Jain architecture. Built in accordance with the founder’s instructions, it is replete with detailed carvings—green-yellow sculptures of Hindu gods, clothed in opulent garments—all over the facade and interiors of this 19th century structure. A beautifully crafted arch welcomes you at the entrance, and the architecture is based on Burma teak wood. Attracting hordes of tourists on a daily basis, the day after Diwali is especially auspicious and draws in millions of devotees. There is also a multi-story guesthouse on the premises, which caters specifically to tourists.
