Spice Bazaar

Much like the Grand Bazaar, Istanbul’s Spice Bazaar is one of the obligatory sights that all tourists must visit. Contrary to its name, the Spice Bazaar is only around 5-10% spice vendors. The rest is sweets, different types of oils, teas, jewellery, souvenirs, and of course, plenty of Turkish delight. What is Turkish delight? It is a group of sweets that have a long and rich history. No trip to Turkey is complete without trying one. There are so many varieties! Lemon, orange, and rosewater, all delicious! Plus there are other less identifiable flavours too. Some come with various forms of nuts, such as hazelnuts, pistachios, or walnuts. But all come packed with plenty of sugar and sweet goodness!
This colourful market is much more of a photographer’s dream than the Grand Bazaar. You can find vendors lined up in a row, and it is nothing but a colorful feast for the eyes. Make sure your battery is charged.
Expert Advice: Go early! As one of the most popular destinations in town, the Spice Bazaar gets packed with visitors by afternoon. Vendors here are more laid back than at the Grand Bazaar – I encourage you to interact with them. Some of them love playing the “let me guess where you are from” game.
