Well known for its heritage railways, the Manx electric railway is one such line that connects Douglas with Laxey in the east and Ramsey in the north. Built between 1893 and 1899, it is the longest narrow gauge vintage electric railway system in the British Isles and some of the trams used are the oldest in the world! The wooden interiors along with the vintage accessories are maintained impeccably making it an insightful trip. During the 17-mile journey, you can sit back and enjoy some of the most stunning views of the countryside. The unique part of the tramcar travel is that you can enjoy the magnificent coastal scenery on one side with the lofty mountains on the other. The journey uphill, with the transformation of the landscape from lush green plains to hillocks and finally majestic mountains, is nothing short of spectacular. The tour offers the opportunity to hop off and explore some of the island’s most stunning coastal areas. Moreover, the railway that still uses its original Victorian and Edwardian rolling stock is a popular excursion route with most travellers.
