How would you like to strap on a board and go sandboarding down a dune as if it were a snowy summit? That’s exactly what you can do at the Sand Mountain Recreation Area, located about 55 kilometers south of Reno off Highway 50 (known as the “loneliest road in America.” Standing at more than 180 meters tall and 3.2 kilometers long, Sand Mountain is one of the few places in the United States of America where you can sandboard. However, it’s no ski resort — there’s no lift and you need to rent a board or bring your own.
