Istanbul Archaeological Museums

The Istanbul Archaeological Museums is a collection of three museums in one – the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of the Ancient Orient, and the Museum of Islamic Art. Combined, they contain over one million artifacts from all corners of the globe.
The three museums are housed in separate buildings built at different times, although the centerpiece of this trilogy is the Archaeological Museum, the primary building. It covers the history of Istanbul and Turkey through the ages in stunning detail. The Museum of the Ancient Orient features artifacts and exhibits from ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, which makes more sense when you realise it was previously known as the Museum of the Near East. And of course the Museum of Islamic Art located within the Tiled Kiosk, which used to be part of the Topkapı Palace grounds. It focuses on pottery and coloured tiles from the 14th- 17th century.

Get Cultured: Take your time. Anything less than two hours here is rushing it. The plaques provide enough basic information and the audio guide (15 TL) leaves much to be desired.
