Apart from the Jama Masjid, Old Ahmedabad has over 50 smaller mosques dating all the way back to the 15th and 16 centuries. Of these, the most elegant one is Rani Sipri’s mosque, located close to Astodia Gate. Also known as Masjid-e-Nagina, the shrine features intricate sandstone carvings replete with Hindu and Muslim motifs. The ‘jharokhas’ (windows) on the southern walls showcase detailed work and the slender looming minarets are a breathtaking sight.
