Pykara falls and lake

Surrounded by forests, locally known as sholas, this picturesque lake is located 25 kilometres away from Ooty. Considerably larger than the Ooty Lake, it is a more serene alternative to Ooty’s tourist hotspot. The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation runs a boat house and restaurant here.
The lake is named after the Pykara river, the longest river in the Nilgiris, which forms a series of waterfalls towards the end. The last two of these are known as the Pykara Falls. They are located in a green valley, 1.5 kilometres away from Pykara lake, with the river cascading over a series of boulders.
