Seems like Pune airport is on a mission to make tourism more sustainable for the environment. Very soon, solar panels will be installed at the hangar of Pune airport, and by the month of March 2018, the authorities are planning to generate 300 KW of energy. The tender for this upcoming initiative has already been floated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
This will definitely prove to be beneficial for travellers visiting the Pune airport as generating electricity through solar energy has been scientifically proven to be beneficial than that from fossil fuels. In fact, the air and water pollution emitted by coal and natural gas plants is linked to breathing problems, neurological damage, heart attacks and cancer.
"The entire solar power plant will be set up at the airport's hangar. The estimated cost of the whole project is Rs. 1.73 crore and work is expected to be completed within three months. The last day of submission of tender quotation is December 11. We do hope the work will be completed in time and that many facilities at the airport will be solar powered," an official told a leading national daily.
"It is not an easy task and studies were conducted for three months before the tender was floated. The project will surely help in saving electricity cost at the airport," another official pointed out.
