Promontory Point provides one of the best views of the Chicago skyline there is, as well as free fire pits. Technically you have to rent one out or get a permit, but no one ever does. So bring some wood, have yourself a barbeque and some s'mores, and enjoy an atmosphere of warm, worryless weather and a beautiful view of Chicago over the lake. Tne park closes at 11 pm and the police will kick you out if they see your bonfire. But if you put out the fire and hang by the rocks you can probably avoid being herded out. This is also an excellent place to go swimming, whether you’re interested in a dip during the day or sneaking in a good night-swim. Also, twice every week, the Navy Pier shoots up fireworks and The Point is the best place to see them (Wednesday at 9:30 pm and Saturday at 10:15 pm) If you’re there around the Fourth of July (the celebration of the American Revolution) this is an excellent place to join the festivities.
